High, Low, Buffalo_Jan Edition
High.
Low.
Buffalo.
While that would be a good start in a children’s board book that was about the Great Plains with hordes of buffalo all over the rolling hills…it’s also the words that I will use to pinpoint some of this last week’s moments of celebration, struggle, and in this installment of the High, Low, Buffalo.
Without further ado:
Highs:
- Cancer Free! Brian received an ALL-clear from his urologist the week before last in what was his first post-chemo scan since he finished cancer treatment last April! This is the best news possible and it will be another year before he has to go back for another scan.
- Snow Days - I know that this isn’t everyone’s high, but for our family it was a glorious time to slow down and be together with lots of soup, popcorn, movies, games, and outside fun!
- Almost baby time - Kaelyn is super close to having her baby and we are all on “baby watch” waiting for the true go time. We are thankful that there wasn’t a need for Kaelyn and Patrick to try to get to the hospital during the snowstorm, but they are definitely very ready to meet their daughter.
Lows:
- Family members sickness - Several of our extended family members who live far away have had hospital visits in the past week. It’s been tough to be so far away while they are going through such a hard time.
- Overwhelming Moments - Supporter raising has had its fair share of very overwhelming moments lately, mostly as the reality of all of the big transitions that are coming is beginning to set-in.
Buffalo:
- Winter Storm Prep - Winter storm preparation in the Midwest is actually nothing short of hilarious. People track pre-storm projected snow totals like its the Super Bowl. We don’t typically get long protracted snow like the people in the North and so we don’t have a lot of practice knowing how to prepare or function inside of it. Oklahomans start buying up all the milk, eggs, bread and toilet paper (and meat. Gotta have your ground beef!) In all the stores. Roads become a mess, and people typically slide all over the place needing to be rescued. Faucets are dripped (although burst pipes really are pretty awful) and schools and businesses close down. The North we are not. :)
